For whom the road tolls?
Wow, I see the daily crab has been quoted in Irelands leading trade magazine
In the August edition Checkout Top 100 Brands an article appears under the heading " Topaz steals Applegreen Strapline?"
It gave me such a warm feeling to know that such a distinguished magazine was checking out my blog. It does get very lonely down here in the complaints department you know, so blogging kind of brightens up my day. The article refers to the "Topaz, thats better. Applegreen, now that's better" post.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, Dublin motorists are into the first few weeks of barrier free tolling on the M50 . How is it all panning out? With toll tags, billing, toll scams, e-flow, etrip, eazipass, directroute, M50 bounty hunters, etc., the story of the M50 resembles one of Dylan's list songs. Let me know your experiences over the past weeks. Let me know what you think of the toll system in general, the M50 is not the only tolled road in Ireland.
The boss told me I should be concentrating on the issues that Irish motorists face daily rather than bothering myself with alleged theft of straplines. I told him I was going to look for feedback on the toll issue. "Toll issue he says, now thats better!"

the toll has turned me into a troll! great no barriers but loads of letters accusing me of going through the barrier in a different car...we've 2 cars and obviously 2 tolls. The toll beeped they took the money for the transactions from our other bank account and now are chasing us to pay again. But we can't expect any less - they finish the m50 "finally" they decide it needs 3 lanes, they finish part of the 3 lanes they decide to remove the toll bridge in this section, they finish the luas, they decide it now needs to go up in the air at the red cow...... need I say any more about the toll :)
Although it does reduce the traffic build up that used to be up as far as the bridge, now it builds up just after instead (due to the reduction from 3 lanes to 2) so its all the same :)
thanks troll,absolutely on the button there with all those observations. I approached the toll bridge on the M4 Friday morning. I had a toll tag from eflow. E-TOLLING ON ALL LANES screamed the signs. Great think I.
Drove up to the barrier, nothing happened. Nobody in the toll booth either. I finally found a little old lady in a high viz jacket who was heading off on her coffee break, she took off reluctantly with my 10 euro note to find change. Five minutes later she arrived back. In fairness she was very sweet, but as far as the promise of e-tolling goes it couldn't have been further from electronic. Another example of the cart before the horse and lack of foresight planning you so clearly outline.
I went through the tolls twice, paid the charges by Visa and now have two 40 euro charges.
There are a lot of problems with the system. There is no printable receipt on paying and when you make a complaint you don't get an acknowledgement. For a person who is not a regular user this toll system is a nightmare. Individuals who pay using machines in shops end up having to pay twice if they have no evidence of the payment. The government will end up buying back the tolling rights all over again.
