Taking the boss to Where The Wild Things Are

For friends of flights of fantasy, as in flying pigs, two new fascinating little items. In the true spirit of flying pigs on the Monaghan motorway, Royal de Luxe, a fantastic French street theater /performance group, are putting on a Fairytale for Berlin this weekend to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. The group, which last year also performed in the city's theater festival, a piece called The Mannequins Revolution, will be in Berlin for three days. People who have witnessed the group performing have described feelings of high emotion and admitted to being incredibly moved by the performances.

Another incredible fight of fantasy which will soon be happily intruding on our everyday reality is the film adaptation of Maurice Sendaks marvellous childrens book Where the Wild Things Are.
By all acounts the film which has been directed by Spike Jonze (best known for his music video work for MTV and for the movie Being John Malkovich) has truly captured the spirit of Sendak's book which tells and illustrates the adventures of young Max who is sent to bed without supper and his ensuing adventures with a host of amazing monsters. If you have kids (or even if you don't) run out to the nearest bookshop and buy a copy of the book now, it's a brilliant Christmas present and believe me when the movie comes out you won't find a copy for love or money. Director Spike Jonze was not even born when the book was first published in 1962 and Sendak asked specifically for him to direct and they have been working almost 10 years on the project. The movie also features an off kilter soundtrack from Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Now 81 years young Sendak has illustrated/written over a hundred books . By all accounts he is very happy with the way the movie has turned out. This movie will be very special, just like the Berlin giants and flying pigs. I intend to take the boss to see it as soon as it arrives in the cinema.
