Subway cuts a fine figure with Petrogas Ipswich station.
The sandwich has come a long way from the "hang-sanger" of old. Sandwiches have always been at the heart of fast food culture. From the iconic wonderful New Orleans Italian style "Muffuletta" to the traditional American Deli "Reuben" , the famous French " Croque Monsieur " and of course the infinite signature creations in sandwich shops and Delis around the world , there are a myriad of magnificent sandwiches available wherever you go. There are almost no countries that have resisted the urge to put something tasty between two slices of bread or two halves of some kind of loaf . In Ireland a cup of tea and a sandwich precedes, punctuates and concludes a host of occasions from funerals to births.
Making a great sandwich is not easy and must be approached with good organizational skills. A background in architecture helps (for the construction) as does design knowledge, and of course a strong sense of sandwich aesthetics is essential so that the finished result has the perfect balance and a mouthwatering look.
I always think there's a great feeling of achievement when you make your own sandwich, especially when you recreate a classic. But it's a hell of a lot of work!! So if every country has it's own favourite fillings and breads, as does every individual sandwich lover, you would have to marvel at anyone who cracks the secret, of catering for this global diversity in taste.
That's just what Subway have done in 109 different countries. Whether you're in a rush or in town at lunchtime, or feeling peckish in the afternoon there is always a Subway close, and if there isn't there will be soon.Subway open their 40,000 store in partnership with Petrogas Global at our station in Ipswich in the UK.
Forty thousand Subways worldwide... it may sound like a Katy Mellua song , but it's a fact.
Opening forty thousand cans of beans would be an enormous achievement but forty thousand sandwich stores? Wow!
The most impressive thing about Subway (aside from the great deal on sandwiches) is they have obviously had to make some compromise to be as consistent and numerous as they are, but they have managed to maintain a high level of quality and credibility along the way. I don't have to tell you that the boss is over the moon that this momentous figure has been reached in association with Petrogas. He's a great man for the figures.
Of course this outstanding figure being achieved at this particular time fits in nicely with our own Petrogas 21 Years celebration this year. Another outstanding figure. So let me say on behalf of all at Petrogas Global, congratulations and well done to all at Subway and Petrogas UK.
I myself also have an outstanding figure, but I'm working on making it stand out a little less. However that's not a problem if I eat at Subway who I notice have an excellent Nutritional Guide and a great range of low fat options.
I am feeling rather peckish for some reason, I think I'll make myself a sandwich, or, maybe I'll just ...oh go figure.
