Do you know why Halloween is the spookiest time of the year?

Happy Halloween from all at Applegreen. (I'm a poet and I don't know it.)

Have a great time tonight, don't overindulge, don't take unnecessary risks and practice common sense safety when partying, trick or treating or simply watching the fun.
In case you have lost sight of what it is Halloween is actually about or were never quite sure, check this out. The myths, stories and history of the origins of Halloween are myriad. However there are many common threads between the wonderful Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations and the Celtic Samhain and all other Halloween celebrations from around the world.

Have a fantastic fun night, don't drink and drive and practice good common sense when scaring the wits out of others...hehe.

Our thoughts are with the families affected.

As the UK was hit by one of the worst storms the country has seen in years over the past week our thoughts are with  the families of the 4 persons killed during the storm. Severe winds and rain ravaged the southwest of the country with a top wind speed of 159 km/h being measured on the Isle of Wight.

Just a few days previous a mini tornado had touched down at our Haylings Island UK Applegreen site and although there was heavy damage in the area no one was injured.

Oh the horror of it all... and it's heading your way!

Yes it's that time of year again. Everybody starts to get a little edgy, suits are dusted off , snakes, bats, spiders and blood sucking become the order of the day.  The whole country quakes in it's boots waiting to be scared out of it's wits.
"Ah Mr. Crab, writing about the budget I see" say's the boss, appearing on my left shoulder, taking the heart out of me as my mother used to say. "Er no boss " I replied, "I'm actually writing about the upcoming Halloween fun and frolics and in particular featuring this wonderful Black Widow display at our Arklow Applegreen store. Jason is a real dab hand with the balloons don't you think"?
Applegreen Arklow conjures up a Budg..I mean Halloween atmosphere with no cuts or austerity, just balloons.
"Halloween, balloons, is that the best you can come up with and Budget day just around the corner" "Hmmnph" he grunted and proceeded to hmmnph off in a huff, I'm sure I heard him say something like.. poor boy, no head for figures..or something to that effect.

Anyway who cares about the budget when you can have Halloween. I mean if things are going to be scary anyway why not have some fun. Send us in your best Budget or Halloween pics. We want to feel your fear. Balloons forever.
With the price of taxis simply ballooning this is one way to beat the traffic and get away from it all.

Bill Clinton was in town last week, do you know what he said?

When an American president or ex- president comes to Dublin it's always a special occasion. So it was last week when Bill Clinton dropped in to give the 6th Ray Murphy Lecture on "The Future of Philanthropy in Ireland" at a special dinner in the Conrad Hotel hosted by Philanthropy Ireland and The Forum on PhilanthropyOf course he looked up his old friends Bono and Rory McIlroy while he was in town. But it was Applegreen Charitable Fund chairman Adrian Giffney who also attended the event that had the best beans to spill with the news that he had just transferred the 3rd quarterly Applegreen Charitable Fund donation for 2013 to CONSOLE . A total of 22,665- was raised. Of that total €17,823.58 came from the Applegreen -YOU BUY WE GIVE- action but in addition, site events and collection boxes have raised a further €3842.34 which shows a really superb effort from the sites responsible. And Bill Clinton? Well Bill explained to the invited guests what it would mean to the world if everybody just gave 1 per cent of their time or money to reducing poverty, and how huge an impact that would make. The proof of that pudding is clearly to be seen in the efforts of the various Applegreen site personnel who regularly give up free days and weekends to raise money to supplement the 'you buy we give' programme. Well done to you one and all.

Bastiaan Wiebenga, Justyne Magdalene Mendel, Thomas Rupsys, Deivis Juste Gudziunai                            recently climbed Lugnaquilla and earnded over 1100 - for Applegreen Charity Fund
Summit or bust!! Well done guys and gal.

What have Cats UK and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang got in common?

The answer of course is they are both mentioned in this post.

But first some news...
Another significant number reached, as Petrogas Global opens its 40th site in the UK.
The site, a Motorway Service Station located at 157-159 Castle Street, Luton, Bedfordshire, is an ex Shell site and is the closest petrol station to Luton Airport.  Best of luck to area manager Chris O'Connor and his team.

Just as we speak I am hearing that the 41st site in the UK is opening tomorrow at 243 North Circular Road, Palmers Green, London. This site lies inside the greater London area, inside the M25
With a road-count  of 60,000 cars daily, this will also be our nearest site to central London.

I can't keep up with this, I'll have to complain to the boss. They are just opening quicker than I can write, but maybe I better not mention that. I can imagine his reply "Simply write faster Mr.Crab"
The funny thing is, that was not the reason I wanted to post today . Rather I wanted to show you what you might see if you drop by one of our motorway stations of a Sunday afternoon.

The following pics were taken at Lusk Nth. Motorway Service Area recently by Liam Doyle of Applegreen,  Lusk Nth. when an Old Timer Motor Rally used the station as it's base. How many cars can you correctly identify? There's a prize for the first person with all correct answers.
Chitty chitty bang bang at Lusk Nth. anyone know what kind of car this is?

Or maybe this is more your style ..know what this is?

This one even I think I know and I normally ride a bicycle only!

This one is pretty optimistic leaving the roof down!

So how many cars can you identify? There's a prize for the first completely correct answer.
