The Sons of Anarchy they are not, but these bikers are tough as nails.

If you are on your way to Galway in your Porsche today and something colourful whizzes past on the hard shoulder it's probably one of the Applegreen team taking part in the wonderful Galway Cycle, an annual event created by the students of Maynooth College to raise funds for charity.
Traditionally Applegreen has a team of cyclists taking part and this year is no exception. Let's hope the weather holds up, everyone has a safe trip and they raise a lot of money. We will keep you posted.

Why this sandwich is fit for a King.


Banana Foster Grilled Cheese
You've probably heard of Elvis' penchant for Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches fried in butter.This creation is not for the faint-hearted or those with the word diet in their vocabulary. It also carries a health warning advising that it not be eaten on a regular basis. But hey, maybe it's your birthday, or a special occasion. We're all allowed to indulge occasionally. One of my favourite grilled sandwich sites developed this similarly over the top Banana Foster Grilled Cheese. It is a mouthwatering feast of indulgence. My personal favourite however is the Bacon Jammy. Good job it takes a bit of work to construct and finish these taste temptations otherwise you just might end up throwing one together every time you get peckish.

Anyone for a delicious cup and coffee ?



You know that feeling when you've had the little free biscuit and you are still a little peckish?  Well Lavazza - Italy's (and Applegreen's) favourite coffee company have solved that problem with their edible coffee cup range. As far back as 2003  designer  Enrique Sardi, confectioner Lello Parisi and the Lavazza Team came up with the Cookie Cup, the edible cup/biscuit which can be eaten after the espresso it contains has been imbibed. The pastry is modelled and baked in special moulds in the  form of the Lavazza Segno espresso cup. The inside of the cookie is coated with a special sugar glaze so that the cup can withstand the high temperature of the coffee. 

 It all makes perfect sense now in 2014. Apart from the obvious advantage of being instantly disposable in an eco friendly manner (just scoff it!!); it solves the problem of the hunger pangs after the free mini biscuit. Keep an eye out for it's re-emergence soon.

Two wheels good when it comes to pizza.

You could use a helmet. But even better how about extra cheese and jalapenos to make for a soft  landing, if you do fall off. It's also a nice reminder; if you eat a slice of pizza you must be prepared to get on your bike. Does that ring a bell?

For the price of a car, you can have this house- part 2.

Here's the follow up on the affordable housing side of things. All you need is a site and the will to see it through. A lot of people around the world are simply settling for a comfortable domicile rather a lifetime investment. However I suggest if you are planning to build it in Ireland or the UK you might want to add some guttering to catch the rain. :)  This one really does have a hobbit - like feel. When the family expands simply add another pod. Also below that, an example of a similar "tiny house" built in Ireland.

                 It might look like an overturned flower pot but these kind of eco friendly clever housing ideas are quickly catching on around the world.
       This one may look like a garden shed but when you see the inside you will be pleasantly surprised. Superb use of space and all for ca. Euro 25,000

Going another kind of Green.

This is one of our favourite St. Patrick day dishes. Wonderfully simple. It's all in the presentation.
To send to  friends abroad, here's a wonderful musical St. Patricks day  exercise that's sure to please.

Drinks, rivers, swimming pools, if it's liquid it will be greened! Non alcoholic drinks are fun and you can  include the kids :)

Going Green is not a single action, a sudden change or a leap of faith. Rather it's a condition, fed by the urge to do the right thing. A slow process that requires commitment and belief  both at home and in the workplace. Balance is the key word.

Now that's batter.

Everybody loves pancakes, whether small round and thick, or large, thin and folded. When it comes to toppings and fillings it's perfectly ok to let your fantasy run free. Personally I am in heaven with butter, lemon juice, sugar and a good dollop of good honey. Have a great Shrove Tuesday. Go easy on the batter.
